Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for questions to be asked about his future following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the team's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points of course but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I feel the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his team in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a spell of this nature with results so bad.”
He concluded, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to its rightful place, prove again what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
