Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Meeting With Los Angeles Dodgers
Springer contributed to the Astros winning the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic after 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Down by two runs, Springer delivered a three-run home run in the seventh inning, guiding the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 victory in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the forthcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for our team, the city, our country," said Springer, a star of the Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an amazing experience."
Springer has now connected for 23 playoff homers, making him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"I can't think of another person on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that moment besides George Springer with his October magic," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's going to sting" in the wake of his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their work in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we ended up on the wrong side of this game," he continued.
The Blue Jays claimed the championship on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on Friday.
