Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the developments of the latest installment show why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their position as important members in House Halovar could help the group enter locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Strategists groups.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
