The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Survival Horror and Social Deduction Gameplay
The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing future games, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.
"This is a distinctive game where a young woman containing several personalities inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.
Entering a Shattered Mind
In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Inside her reside four separate personas, each with unique fears and drives. These entities can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.
Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a creepy medical facility, while additional clips depict the main character navigating a abandoned chapel.
A World of Individual Horror
"What are you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to other people can trigger something primal within us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are unique to each person."
The central mechanic revolves around controlling whichever soul surfaces at any given time. However, these identities will switch involuntarily as you play. During exploration, every persona's fears become exaggerated and attack the protagonist in succession. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player experiences.
Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice
At first glance, UN:Me displays striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their heads are. Flowers are a recurring theme, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.
Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four personas claims that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."
After a player have deduced a persona is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, because every entity can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.
"Perhaps you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining might be a fake. In any case, your decisions are final."
UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is available to follow on platforms.
