The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes only eight human participants, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Activities done by real players award full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode delivers on its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to enjoy the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

If the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
