The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
